Quality Control at the Daily Mail

Is there any?

Not content with stirring up the hornet's nest over Modric - and other outrageous stories too numerous to mention - their latest garbage suggests that Villarreal are going to buy Sandro for £12m.

Now, as a NewsNow addict I'm more than prepared to accept that certain ropey sites (sportsvibe, transfertavern footylatest, Bleacher etc) like to make stuff up and publish it under the pretense of news. I don't mind that so much, not at all; it helps pass the day. However, I really do think that a national newspaper - irrespective of your opinions regarding their politics - have a duty to be considerably more responsible. Any follower of football with functioning eyes and even the slightest understanding of economics must be able to see what a joke this is.

So, for the benefit of the bravely anonymous "Sportsmail Writer" let me point out a few fatal flaws in your hypothesis:
  1. He's only been a Spurs player for a year
  2. He has been arguably one of the finds of the season
  3. He is still young and obviously has great promise
  4. We paid £8m, so considering the above points your £12m valuation is laughable
  5. Read these quotes - does this sound like player looking to leave?
I could go on, but you get the gist. I'm sure the 1,056 pedants amongst you ;-) will point out that the offending article merely suggests that the Spaniards are "opening tentative talks" with his agent - but are they? Are they really? Where is the reference to some kind of evidence? Blow me, could we not even be arsed to make up a quote this time?

I can almost guarantee that this story doesn't make it into the paper itself, so why is it acceptable to put it on the website? This, as you may have noticed, really grinds my gears.

Just another reason to impose a Fergie-esque ban on any communication with them if you ask me.

absolutely no credibilty to any of the rubbish they publish, Spurs fans should boycott the Daily Mail they're hell bent on publishing stories that make us out to be a small selling club whos players are desperate to leave and clubs wouyld buy them for a pittance

I've always disliked the Mail and always refused to read it for precisely this reason. For many years they've enjoyed writing stories like this and it seems to me, about Spurs players in particular

Whilst I agree that the Daily Mail is pretty dire all round, particularly for sport, the Mirror actually broke this story last night; subsequently the Daily Mail has piggy backed on it. I think we can rest assured that Sandro will be with us come the start of the season, hopefully picking from where he left off last. Less of the chicken celebration though eh?

I have always loathed the Daily Bigot, and it seems it is still continuing with it's policy of half truths and out and out lies. This rag is not worth wiping your arse with.

The Mail are simply awful from the front to back pages!! Must be a slow news week!!

Daily Mail has decided to follow that "top crap newsmaker" The daily Star and print unsubstantiated fantasy crap

don't worry about it. it was obviously a slow news day on the illegal immigrant, speed camera and princess diana front.

one has to assume that the writer is a keen fan of another team. spurs are singled out for a constant stream of what is clearly intended to be most harmful. they dont do stories on o'hara, while it may be true it wont harm. no the anonymous writer always picks the unsettling ones, so bale to come next and then van der vaart
one would hope that the editors have some concern over their reputation, for truth rather than as a representative of middle england views

If you think the Mail is bad you should read the one sided anti spurs articles in the Telegraph

The Nazi Times aka The Daily Mail is not worth air time. The more we talk about them positive or negotiate they will feed of it like a parasite! Please no more blowing about them!

The Daily Mail, Metro and Daily Star I believe are all in the same stable as the London Evening standard with whom Daniel Levy has had a long running feud. For some reason or other Mr Levy strongly objected to the lies and deceit the LES reporter printed and subsequently banned him. I don't know whether the ban is still in force or particularly care. What confuses me is why any fan of football or any team, thinks that these 'reporters' know anything more about the game than you or I?. In relation to the Mail, I do know that a certain Jamie Redknapp 'writes' for them and it would stand to reason that any 'insider' information could stem from him,. But that's mere speculation and that's a newspaper reporters role in the gutter not mine!

typical Daily Mail, what do you expect? they quoted Modric the other day as 'the £15million man!' i cant believe anyone in their right mind would believe a word they print! and Los Patricios - i want to see more of the chicken!! i still cry with laughter every time i see Harry trying to explain to sandro to be more defensive while hes jumping around doing the chicken!!

I got banned without even a notification,as they've never once published anything I posted by way of response to their so called 'exclusives'. It's probably because I've called them liars, idiots and above all charlatans and my offers of doing a decent job for them(without pay), as they've obviously overpaid the chimpanzee's emploed in monkey nuts also went without a reply, how strange eh?

Well said. I almost stopped reading when I read 'Spanish giants Villarreal'.

The Daily Mail is a revolting, down-market, Spurs hating, little rag. It's habitually in contravention of all known standards of journalistic ethics and I would love to see Levy sue this malicious, lying, hack-ridden, apology for a newspaper again.

My thoughts exactly - I've noticed a lot of total sensationalist garbage come out of the msil for a while now and exactly as you say the bit that shocks me is that they're a national newspaper. I'm surprised they allow it as it serves to tarnish what little reputation they have left.

Er what? It was the Mirror that originated this story and the Daily Mail forwarded it.
Guess the snobs are going to have to find something else to whine about today.

Someone above called Piers Morgan a twat. This is not true. A twat is someone annoying but harmless, like Shane Ritchie, for instance. Piers Morgan on the other hand, is a cunt.

Our friend Piers Morgan. Its no surprise he is gooner fan. While not knowing the fellar personally,he comes across as a ton the screen.throughtly arrogant pompus person.Something he has in common with the majority of those who support the gooners. As for the Daily Mirror Mail, why even contemplate reading them,Unless of course your in the bog..

This is the filthy rag that had an article with the title "Hurrah for the Blackshirts" in the 1930's. Nothing has changed then.
