Dos Santos: Better Than Sliced Bread???

With Barcelona themselves confirming that the Dos Santos deal is done it looks like Spurs fans up and down the country can rejoice. This is the player many of us wanted to see come to the Lane and, in a rather surprising development, the deal has been done despite being one of those that has had the arse dragged out of it in the media for the last few weeks.

A proper left foot and a glowing CV should be enough to start us all salivating at the prospect of seeing him weave some magic in an area of the pitch where it has been sadly lacking for many a season. That said, perhaps I could offer a word or two of caution before we all get carried away.

Whilst I am more than happy to take the word of people who have seen him play, it does strike me that sub £5m is a rather low amount for someone as hyped as Dos Santos has been. Yes, that may rise to £8m and yes they have a variable percentage of any sell on fee but nonetheless, I don't think we should be expecting the next Ronaldo here!

With any luck, the fans will break the habit of a lifetime and not expect the boy to be a world beater in his first season. I'm sure he will make a great impression, but let's give him plenty of time to develop. I don't care what you say, £5m does not buy the finished article and I feel we should place this kid somewhere between "first team player" and "hot prospect" to manage our own expectations!!!

The transfer window is shaping up beautifully with Modric and now Dos Santos likely to form the crux of our midfield for years to come. Now where's that centre half and the world class keeper....

were now becoming a team that has great options going forward and will score plenty of goals with or without BERBA. However, we conceeded far to many goals last seasom, so we must now concentrate on signing a tough midfield general and a world class defender. COYS

Although i agree in that we can expect too much from him, but he does look like a player! Your not involved in 20+ games for barcelona if your not a player with a certain amount of talented!

I think your missing the fact that his contract was running down, and thats why he's been in contract negotiations for the past year. He was linked with a £20m move to Chelsea at the end of last year. I really think we've got one hell of a steal on this one. Great business for a change. I certainly wont expect the world from him straight away, but he's exactly the type of player that Ramos can turn into a world beater. I can see him having as good, if not better, a season as Lennon had in his 1st year. As you say, lets sort out at the back. Former yid Durie says we can have Cuellar and McGregor? Yes please!

would still like to see capel as well as well as new keeper and centre back and mid and berba to stay (that would be a great summer)

nice to see the future being planned out now. This kid and Modric could be just what we've been looking for - let's also hope Bostock does a Rooney and is knocking on the door soon, too.

he only had year on his contract and wanted to go for his development so they can hardly demand more money, hes a brillaint player blinding buy for us

Dos Santos is definitely great news. Really would like to see us make a move for Bentley. Then its a gritty midfielder in the Gattuso, Makalele, Hargreaves mould. Then a centre back, not entirely sure what is required here. We have got Woodgate - who is class - but lacks both pace and strength sometimes. This is an easy thing to say, but i think we need a fast Dunne. Don't know who though. Basically we need a fit King. Then its a tall and strong goal keeper. Kameni is great. In many ways a hero for Espanyol this season. He is prone to the odd error though. Maybe worth thinking about an older but more experienced keeper. The gritty midfielder is an absolute essential though.

Don't think he will play much? I think you should check out his left foot on you tube, if you can name another player who can cross with his left like that I will be happy to agree with you, but until then. WOHEY WE GOT DOS SANTOS! :P

The reason he came for such a good price and a high percentage of future sales is that Barca know how much he will be worth in the future and they had to let him go to where he wanted to go!.....He wanted to work with Ramos!.....he would not sign for Chelscum whatever they payed Barca.

The only way they could get the best money for him before his contract ran out was go to where he wanted and get a high percentage of where he goes next when Spurs cash in on him!

Great Business, Great Ramos business....would never have happened under Jol....Jol lovers....do you get it yet!!!!!!
